Unit 2.- Phonological Processes´classification

 

Once you have read all Unit-1 it is necessary to start studying the classification of Phonological Processes. In this Unit we will study the Linking, Coalescence, Assimilation, Elission, Methatesis, Haplology and Gemination with examples of each one of them. ACTIVITIES

After you have read the whole guide and understood the content of Unit-2 it is relevant to demonstrate the knowledge you have about the classification of  Phonological Processes. Through the following activities you Phonetics II teacher may evaluate your developed activities. All you are going to need is a text processor (like Microsoft Word, Open Office Writer, Abiwriter, etc.), and a valid e-mail account.

3rd Activity: (J-Match,Formative): "Let´s differ Phonological Processes"

Here you have a link with an HTML document. In this document you will find an activity called J-Matching in which you have to drop each one of the elements of the right column and match it with the element on the left column you consider is the right definition. All you need here is an Internet Browser. After you end with the matching click on the "Check" button and find you score, success!

4th Activity: (Webquest, 20%):  "Do these Phonetic Representations"

The activity consists on doing the phonetic transcription of phrases and words in English Language and underline where phonological processes of the connected speech occur..!! You will have to show teacher about your adquired knowledge in class..

5th Activity: (Forum, 20%) "Listen to the dialogue"

All you have to do here is to follow the instructions given in the Forum post. Make a list with all the phonological processes you found in the dialogue, after that you should send the list through a PM (private message) to the Site Administrator (in this case Prof. Patrizia Richiusa). Please do not try to write your answer in the post because is going to be closed. Remember that you have to register yourself as a forum user to write a PM, so, if you do not know how to do it go to the Forum´s Page and read the instructions, success!.

6th Activity (Podcasting/Blog, 30%) "Create Your own situation"

As a final evaluation, when you have done all the previous activities go to the Phological Processes Blog and do the second activity that consists in the recreation of a situation in pairs and it´s dramatization. This particular activity requires from a microphone because you have to record your product and upload it to Mediafire (a Web Hosting site). The instructions for doing all this process are in the blog post, so, please read carefully the information provided.
